Recently, officers at the Luohu Border Inspection Station noticed irregularities in the temporary entry permits of three foreign nationals during exit checks, prompting them to escalate the matter for further investigation.

The three individuals, who were university students from abroad visiting China as tourists, initially received temporary entry permits valid until August 13. However, due to financial constraints, they sought the cheapest available flights for their return and found that the lowest-cost option was on August 18. Confronted with permits expiring on August 13, the trio attempted to alter the “3” to an “8” in an effort to extend their stay illegally and avoid detection. This action was a violation of Chinese immigration laws, and the tampering was swiftly detected by the border inspection officers.

As a consequence, each individual was fined RMB 1,500 in accordance with Article 71, Item 1 of the “Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China.” Furthermore, under Article 62, Paragraph 1, Item 2, and Paragraph 3 of the same law, all three were deported from China.

The Luohu Border Inspection Station has issued a reminder urging all foreign travelers entering or leaving China to familiarize themselves with the country’s immigration regulations ahead of time. Travelers should ensure that their passports, visas, and stay permits are valid. If these documents expire, travelers must apply for extensions at local immigration offices well in advance.
